A great public course for golfing and dining

Revere Golf Club

A great public course for golfing and dining

Story by Bill Bowman

Ask any golfer what he is looking for when searching for the perfect golf course and the answers will vary. A few answers come up frequently, however—conditioning, variety, and challenge. Revere Golf Club fits that criteria to perfection. The 36-hole layout, designed by Billy Casper and Greg Nash, has been a must-play for locals and visitors since it opened in 1999.

“With the 36 holes, golfers definitely have variety,” says Bill Klemke, general manager. “The two courses have distinct differences that make them appealing. The Lexington is the more challenging of the two and the Concord is more like a public course and a little more player-friendly.” But make no mistake—both courses offer great conditions, playability, and stunning views. “People don’t realize the elevation,” he says. “We’re at about 3,000 feet so we have panoramic views everywhere. And we also have elevation changes on both courses, where a lot of other courses can be fairly flat.”

Those elevation changes come into full view on the 11th hole on the Concord. It’s the highest elevation on the property, with great views. In fact, they have held weddings there because it’s such an incredible spot.

A look at the two courses gives players their first glimpse at what awaits them. The Lexington plays to 7,143 yards from the tips and is a par-72 track. The layout will test players’ shot making skills, as well as offering up risk-reward scenarios. One of those risk/reward holes is the par-5 16th. According to Klemke, “It’s definitely one of the more challenging holes. There’s a forced carry over an arroyo and it’s a very narrow green. There’s not much landing space. If you hit a good drive, you will have the chance to go for it in two, but there’s a lot of trouble around the green.”

The Concord layout reaches 7.034 yards and also plays to a par of 72. Its best feature is the playability. “It’s more player-friendly from start to finish,” Klemke notes. “It’s a layout that lets golfers go out and just enjoy their round. But, depending on what set of tees they choose, it can still be a good challenge.”

While the golf courses speak for themselves when it comes to getting golfers in the door, it’s the staff that ensures players return. Klemke, who has been at the property for 23 years, claims “We have one of the best staffs in the valley. It’s a great core team and they all realize their efforts make a big difference. They are the first people to greet the players when they arrive on property and the last people they will talk with before they go. All of those interactions leave an impression, and our staff has always been top-notch when it comes to customer service.”

And it’s not just the golf that attracts folks to the Revere Golf Club. The food options in the restaurant are also a big appeal. They are right in the middle of Sun City Anthem, and they are open to the community. That means a lot of people, not just golfers, have the chance to sample cuisine not usually found at golf courses. “Our restaurant isn’t typical,” Klemke says. “We do about 75 weddings a year, and those folks are looking for a higher level of food and beverage options. We recognized that and have a more detailed menu as well as an executive chef we pulled over from the Strip. We get high ratings for our food options and golfers are always surprised to come in and find the variety we offer.”

The facility added a gathering spot that is centrally located and will add to the ambience…and dining. This year they built a snack shack right on the driving range, another food and beverage outlet. So whether they’re hitting golf balls or making the turn, it will be right there for golfers. “It’s a really cool spot that, when the weather is perfect, people can sit on the patio, which will hold about 100 people, and enjoy the food, friends and the views. It’s outstanding.”

For those looking for deals, check the Revere website. They have a 36-hole package, where players get basically a 25-percent discount. It’s one of their most popular packages. They also offer a club rental package for people who don’t want to drag their clubs around, plus a golf and food package.

In the end, Klemke, says there’s no reason players shouldn’t check out the golf at Revere Golf Club. “It’s got everything players can want. Players will have the choice of playing the two courses anywhere from 6,000 yards to 7,200 yards, so they can make their round as challenging as they want. But no matter which course they choose to play, the golf and the views will be memorable.”
