With regional vacations growing in popularity over the last few months, Sand Hollow Resort should most definitely be on your radar. Just a two-hour drive from Las Vegas, it is easy to enjoy a quick weekend getaway or a full week’s vacation.

A plethora of outdoor paradise and adventure await enthusiasts at Sand Hollow Resort. My husband and I were lucky enough to spend an extended week at the resort recently, and I am already planning a trip back with kids in tow.

The resort is located in Hurricane, Utah, just north of St. George. And it is truly one of the ultimate getaways for those looking for outdoor fun and adventure. To that end, the resort has become a go-to destination for golfers, hikers, boaters, atv’ers, jeepers and many more. During our stay we took advantage of the plethora of golf at the resort, lounged at the pool, enjoyed nearby recreation, and finished off each evening at the clubhouse with delicious food, stunning views, and even live entertainment.

Simply put, the lifestyle choices at Sand Hollow Resort, whether you’re heading there on vacation or looking for a new place to call home, can be put into their four favorite words: Escape, Play, Discover, Relax.

On the escape side, guests can curl up and relax in one of the many varieties of vacation homes, condos, or suites. All in all, Sand Hollow Resort offers over 150 units that sleep form one to 25 guests. The vacation homes that include three, four, and five bedroom accommodations are an ideal getaway for friends and families of any size. The vacation condos and suites, ranging in size from one to six bedrooms, have all of the amenities of home—and then some. The Condos and Suites overlook the front nine of the Championship Course and include spacious accommodations, large outdoor patio or balcony, oversize soaking tubs, gas fireplaces, LCD flat-panel TVs, cable programming, and free Wi-Fi. Our one-bedroom condo featured tons of room, large windows and a balcony for the stunning golf course and landscape views, a full kitchen and family room, as well as a spacious bedroom suite.

Then we come to the play side. As in golf. Since being unveiled just over ten years ago as an impressive must-play golf course, Sand Hollow has evolved—big time. There’s the 18-hole Championship Course, the 9-hole par 36 Links Course and a 9-hole par-3 course, the Wee Course. The 18-hole Championship Course is rated in the top 100 resort courses by GolfWeek. Add in the 9-hole Links Course and the Wee Course, and the golf options will fit everyone’s game as well. There’s also a spacious practice facility and a stunning clubhouse boasting wrap around views (complete with the Sand Hollow Grille) to ensure all of your golf needs are met.

The highlights on the Championship Course are plentiful. But we’ll highlight the 12th, 13th and 14th holes. These are three of the best holes players will take on anywhere. All three provide a stiff challenge (complete with daunting forced carries) and beautiful surroundings. Fairways and greens here are located along cliffs that in some instances drop 100 feet. These are just three of the 18 intriguing holes that make up the championship course. The Links course has a definite Scottish type feel to it and adds another touch of flavor to the resort. Before dinner one evening we squeezed in a round at the Wee Course, great for some short game contests!

The clubhouse itself is stunning, boasting wraparound windows and balcony with ample room for dining and resting. Breakfast, lunch, or dinner—all are amazing. We enjoyed each during out stay, but the dinners are what we will remember most. Excellent service—thank you Mike and Abby—made for a fantastic evening. We were also pleasantly surprised with live entertainment both Friday and Saturday evenings—first was Improv Comedy night followed Saturday with a live band and plenty of dancing. We arrived early for gorgeous sunsets and stayed late for a lively party.

Now we move on to the discover part of the resort. Sand Hollow Resort is located just a driver and wedge from Sand Hollow Reservoir, a huge outdoor water facility and one of the largest OHV areas in the county. We paid two visits to the lake, swimming and enjoying some time on a paddleboard. Clear water, gorgeous rock formations, and warm weather make for a great time. Close by are Zion National Park, Snow Canyon State Park, and the Grand Canyon. Also nearby are sites that are ideal for water sports, snow sports, adventure sports, biking, hiking, and any number of other outdoor activities that have made the area a must-see destination.

Special events are also plentiful and waiting to be discovered at Sand Hollow Resort. Destination weddings, of course, are prominent with some of the best views you will find at any golf resort. The same venues can also be used for team building and leadership conferences for corporations. The Sand Hollow Rock Bowl venue regularly boasts concerts under the stars and signature events abound including Golf Week, Sand Hollow Resort SkyFest Hot Air Balloon Festival, a Fall Car Show, and The Light The Night Christmas Holiday Tradition.

“There’s a wide variety of options that appeal to guests,” says Adam Jasperson, general manager. “People can spend all day on the lake, play golf or explore the parks and then come back and spend the evening relaxing and have a nice meal, as all of the accommodations come complete with kitchens.”

And, finally, there’s the relax portion of the statement. Whether you’re looking for a spot for that well-deserved vacation to chill out and, well, relax, or you’re looking for a new place to call home that’s away from the hustle and bustle you’re living with now, it’s time to check out Sand Hollow Resort. You’ll be glad you did.

“We get people out here who haven’t seen the stars since they were kids,” Jasperson says. “There’s just something calming about that. It’s rejuvenating and people can look out around the area and see what nature has given us.”
