Perfecting your game

Let’s face it: If you’re a golfer, you’re always looking to get better. We all know there is no magic formula that will help players improve. That requires dedication, hard work and, unless you’re the PGA Tour’s Bubba Watson who has never taken a lesson, an instructor who has seen it all. That all sounds well and good, but the tough part of that equation is finding the perfect coach or location to achieve that goal.

Well, the answer to your search may be closer than you think. Look no further than the instructors at GOLFTEC. They have the answer—actually, the answers—when it comes to getting the most out of your game and helping you get your game to the next level.

At GOLFTEC, with two Las Vegas locations, the instructors’ goals are simple and are one of the first lines on their website: Whether you’re looking to win your club championship or you’re just getting started with the game, golf lessons with GOLFTEC is the perfect solution for you. Granted, there are thousands and thousands of instructors and golf centers making that exact same claim. So what makes GOLFTEC different? Tim Sam, the regional manager and director of instruction, has the answer. That wording on the website is not only a motto—it’s his life’s passion. Sam has been with GOLFTEC since 2004 and is approaching 40,000 lessons in that timeframe.

“The beauty of the game is it never gets old trying to help players improve,” he says. “It constantly reinvents itself and no matter what the age or ability, seeing people improve makes it all worthwhile.” What sets GOLFTEC apart is it is a one-stop setup. Whether players are looking for lessons (on-site or on the golf course) or club fitting, the staff is trained to bring out the best. In fact, walking into GOLFTEC, one would think they’ve entered a mad scientist’s lab. There are hundreds of clubheads and shafts available to fit the clubs to the student. There are also gadgets everywhere that help instructors pinpoint weak spots in a players’ swing. Yes, it's a lab and the instructors may even be scientists in their own way, but there's nothing mad about it. Everybody is unique in what they want and what their problems are. It all starts out with understanding what a player wants. It’s easy to go from Point A to Point B, but there’s a lot involved. It’s dependent on the player. What they want is what we deliver.”

They have other aspects of the center to help students along the way. This includes video sessions as well as GOLFTEC’s Clubhouse site on the web. Players can access previous lessons and notes from the instructors 24/7. Can’t sleep at 2 a.m. and want to check out your swing or putting stroke? No problem. It’s all right there on your electronic devices.

GOLFTEC is also a state-of-the-art golf center. Through motion measurement and video analysis instructors can pinpoint where students need a little more work. “On the teaching and coaching side, our motion and measurement system is brand new,” according to Sam. “It’s called OptiMotion. Students don’t have to wear anything and it’s absolutely fantastic.” Through the use of just two cameras, the instructors get the feedback on 12 different body motions at nine specific positions. “It’s just fantastic. We get great data points and those help us decide on what the needs of the players are and we go from there.” He says the numbers don’t lie. “Our systems are foolproof and work 100 percent of the time. As long as the student wants to get better and puts in the time, it’s going to work.”

Sam was also quick to point out that the instruction is just one part of the process. The student’s work outside of the sessions is just as vital. “Often times students misjudge how long it takes and how much work it requires to make changes. We motivate and educate the students but they also have to put in the work on their own.”

Through his years of instruction, Sam knows all about players’ hopes and dreams. “That’s why we do what we do. I’ve loved the game since I was a kid and that’s the No. 1 reason that I do this. It’s just life-changing when someone tells you they are hitting the ball a little further and more efficiently. It really makes you feel good.” But Sam also knows it’s not an easy process.

“The sign of a great coach is one who will listen. When you’re trying to make changes it can be frustrating and we’re here to help.”

So if your game could use a little work (or in some cases a lot), or you’re in need of playing a set of clubs that fit you and your swing, maybe it’s time to check out GOLFTEC. Because in the end, GOLFTEC’s goal is to help every golfer get to the point of playing their best every time out.

“Everybody’s journey is unique,” Sam says. “We’re here to help make that journey a success.”
