Welcome home—to Canyon Gate Country Club.
“One of our slogans is ‘We want to make Canyon Gate Country Club your home away from home,’” says Jim Sherouse, membership director at the club.
And they’ve done a masterful job of it. Sure, there’s the stunning Ted Robinson designed golf course that’s the centerpiece of the country club. The par 72, 6,769-yard course features tremendous bunkering and Robinson’s usual excellence in design of his par 3 holes. The course, built in 1989, is also home to tree-lined, lush fairways and immaculate greens.
But there’s so much more than just golf. Canyon Gate Country Club offers a full-service restaurant that features casual fine dining in The Grill. If there’s an athlete inside of you, exceptional tennis management has doubled the tennis memberships in the past couple of years. The clubhouse also boasts a fitness center that has recently expanded. Members can now work out while surrounded by massive windows that look out onto the 18th hole as well as the mountains in the background. The club also offers food and beverage services, and will take care of the cleanup, making all events a breeze. And the country club was also host to more than 75 weddings last year alone.
“We have so many amenities at the club,” Sherouse says. “We have Disco Night, Mystery Dinner Night…we have luaus, gigantic parties. The Club simply has a lot of choices for our members and that’s what makes Canyon Gate a great club.”
So what are you waiting for? “We’re reaching out to young executives and their families who want to play golf, play tennis, work out,” Sherouse says. To that end, there are a variety of membership options to check out.
A membership at Canyon Gate goes beyond the club. As an entity of Club Corp., players also have playing privileges at Bear’s Best Golf Club (a Jack Nicklaus designed course just 10 minutes away) as well as 200 other country clubs around the United States. Dining privileges extend to the company’s business clubs across the country and there are also discounts to 700 hotels and restaurants.
And now we move back to the golf course where the Men’s Club is one of the largest in Las Vegas and the Women’s Club numbers are on the rise. Canyon Gate is also one of the few courses in Las Vegas that players can walk.
On the course, the rolling fairways and undulating (but true-rolling) greens will impress players.
A few of the golf holes that stand out include each nine’s opening hole (both par 5’s) and both par 3’s on the back nine.
The first and tenth holes give players the chance to score right from the start of each nine. The first hole stretches to 545 yards from the tips while the tenth is 525 yards from the back tees. Good drives, smart layup shots and accurate wedges will give players birdie chances.
Hole 12 (243 yards from the tips) and hole 17 (223 yards from the tips) are as big a challenge as players will find in par 3’s.
Overall Canyon Gate Country Club gives members and their guests that warm, comfortable feeling. “It’s just a great golf course and a great community,” Sherouse says.
Many people are finding there’s no better place to be than playing golf at your home course…or in this case, your home away from home.
