A great vacation destination close to home

It’s that time you’ve been waiting for all year—vacation. Or maybe you’re just looking for a quick getaway. Whatever type of outing you’re planning—an overnight stay, a weekend outing or a weeklong vacation—you’ll be searching for that spot with all of the amenities you’ll need to have a great time.

And that includes, of course, golf courses. The CasaBlanca Resort & Casino in Mesquite, just an hour north of Las Vegas, will fit the bill perfectly. “We offer great value and variety for people looking for that quality experience,” says Christopher Lazzara, Vice President of Marketing and Advertising.

It’s time to check it out.

The Resort

This one’s easy. The resort offers 480 rooms, a 45-space RV park and 22 timeshare units. Whatever your accommodation needs, they’ve got you covered. “We put in brand new beds, new TVs and new furniture,” Lazzara says. “We just finished up the last of the remodel in January, so if people haven’t seen us in awhile, they’ll like what they see and what we’ve done.”

Now that you’re settled in your room, it’s time to look around and check out the options available for your spare time. After all, you’re here to have a good time and they’ve got more than enough activities to meet everyone’s wants and desires.

The Golf

Let’s start on the golf course. Along with the 18 holes at CasaBlanca (just a two-minute drive from your room), there are 10 other courses in the area the resort has dealings with, all just waiting for you to tee it up.

“It’s a great small-town type atmosphere and destination resort,” said Christian Adderson, corporate sales manager. “And the golf courses just add to the appeal and make it special. We’ve got six courses within six minutes of the resort.”

Ah, yes, the courses. On the way to Mesquite is Coyote Springs. In Mesquite, there are The Palms, Falcon Ridge, Wolf Creek, two Oasis courses (Palmer and Canyons) and Conestoga. Up the road in St. George, Utah, are Sand Hollow, Coral Canyon and Sky Mountain. If you can’t find one layout (or more) that fits your eye, you’re not looking very hard.

One of the favorites is the $99 special. It’s a one-night stay at the CasaBlanca and one round of golf at either CasaBlanca or The Palms. Add in a second round of golf for just $55.

Speaking of the CasaBlanca course, this Cal Olsen designed layout reaches just over 7,000 yards from the tips. The risk/reward holes on this course are plentiful including a pair of drivable par-4 holes—if you’re a big hitter as well as accurate. The third hole (315 yards from the tips but much shorter from forward tees) and the 15th (308 yards but, again, shorter as you move forward) give players the option to give it a go with the big stick. For the rest of us mortals, a layup shot to a favorite wedge yardage definitely brings birdie into play on both holes.

The par 5s are also reachable in two for the big hitters, especially the second. At 507 yards from the tips, a good drive sets up a long iron or hybrid into a green with three bunkers standing guard as well as water on the right. Do you dare give it a shot?

There are more golf packages available than players can shake a driver at. Golfers can play as many courses as they like and stay as many nights as they like with their ‘Build Your Own Custom Golf Vacation.’

After the round, or rounds, you’ll want to grab a bite to eat. From room service to the café to the Mesa Buffet to Katherine’s Steakhouse (impressive seafood and steak options), everyone in your group will definitely have a variety of meal options.

Lazzara said it matter-of-factly: “Katherine’s is definitely high-quality. These are some of the best steaks. We fly in the stone crabs and Dover sole daily. Everything here is top-notch. I’d put Katherine’s up against any Vegas steakhouse any day.”

The Spa

This one has it all. Massages? Yep. Manicure and pedicure? You bet. Facial services? Of course. Hair styling? Yes. And there’s more. If you’re looking to be pampered, you’ve come to the right place.

“The spa is another huge draw for us,” Lazzara said. “We prize our spa like our golf course. We know we could charge more for the experience guests receive, but we want them to be able to experience everything at a very good price.”

The Casino

If you’re looking for nighttime fun and games, try your luck in the casino. There are 30 table games, more than 800 slots and the sports book, so the gaming options are as plentiful as the golf course choices.

After the round, grab a beer, place a bet on your favorite team and relax in the cool sports book environment and catch all the action from around the sports world.

There are festivals galore scheduled (check out their calendar of events) including hot air balloon festival, a music fest, a gathering of Elvis impersonators, a rib fest and much more including live music in the casino showroom. And, we’ve just touched the tip of the iceberg. Why not take a few minutes (or hours) while you’re relaxing poolside and plan out your next adventure at the resort.

The Verdict

We are all looking for that vacation spot that checks all the boxes. This one does it in spades. It may not have all the bells and whistles of the upscale, newer resorts but they simply aren’t needed. The bottom line is, the CasaBlanca has got all the comforts you’ll need at a price that won’t break the pocketbook.

“If you haven’t been here before, or if it’s been awhile, take another look at all we have to offer,” Lazzara said. “We know we could charge more, but we want to offer our guests that old Las Vegas experience. And we want them to come back.”
