A Las Vegas tradition since 1983, the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open is slated to be the most exciting PGA TOUR event this fall. The 2013 tournament boasted an incredible field with 10 of the current top 15 FedExCup leaders teeing it up in Vegas, a result of the inclusion in the annual FedExCup points race. And with the wraparound schedule instilled last year that allows players to earn money and points early in the season, the field is expected to become stronger every year.
If you haven’t had a chance to attend the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, or even if you have, this is the year you do not want to miss. The tournament is asking, “What’s Your Tradition?” and inviting fans, sponsors and players to continue established traditions and create new ones at the exciting fan zones and events around the course.
The 15th green viewing platform is back by popular demand and puts golf fans inches away from TOUR players as they shoot for eagle on the reachable par 4. It’s as close to the action as you can get without being inside the ropes. Last year, fans made their way to the viewing platform early in the day, many not leaving until the final putt dropped on 15. All-day excitement and nearby concessions make this a great place to catch the entire field. This year, the Hyundai Sonata Social Lounge will take over the 15th green as fans share, tweet and post photos throughout the day with a chance to win VIP experiences on course.
Beer lovers can rejoice as Oktoberfest is coming to the newly designed beer garden and fan enhancement zone on the driving range. Twin Peaks restaurant will be serving ice cold brews to wash down the brats and pretzels, and picnic tables will take the place of the bleachers that previously lined the driving range so fans can watch the pros with a cold beer in hand. Attendees can also head over to the Golfsmith swing nets to see if they have what it takes to make it on TOUR.
If you’re worried about missing your alma mater’s big game on Saturday or your fantasy football players’ winning touchdown, worry no more. Bringing all the action of the field to the course, The Hill offers the ultimate sports bar experience featuring 36 flat-screen TVs, plush leather seating options, and a full service bar just steps away. Returning this year, the annual wine festival offers a new taste of The Hill and fans are encouraged to bring their dancing shoes for Saturday evening entertainment.
Don’t forget that while you and your buddies are enjoying a few cold ones and top-notch golf, you are supporting the world-class pediatric care provided by Shriners Hospitals for Children. The 22-hospital network offers superior care to children with burns, spinal cord injuries, orthopaedic conditions, and cleft lip and palate, regardless of a family’s ability to pay.
So whether you want the front-row seat on 15, a craft beer on the driving range, or the ultimate sports bar experience, mark your calendar for the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, October 15 to 19, and start your tradition.
