Public Spotlight - Wolf Creek Golf Club

Play it to Believe It

Great golf at Wolf Creek

Story by Bill Bowman

At Wolf Creek Golf Club, whether you’re a beginner or a scratch golfer, you’ll experience a golf course that has all the beauty, views and challenges to stimulate all the senses.

At the course, located an hour north of Las Vegas in Mesquite, Nevada, players will see it all. From the subtly placed bunkers that guard lush, undulating fairways and immaculate greens to the deep-blue ponds and streams that add to the colorful showcase, players will experience a round of golf that will bring them back for more.

“It’s our goal to provide a great and lasting experience whether it’s your first visit or you’ve played here before,” says Joel Villanos, general manager.

On the golf course, which plays 6,939 yards from the tips, there are amazing views, risk/reward holes and golf shots that will test players’ nerves and accuracy.

Players will find one of the best views on the course on the par 5 5th hole. At 490 yards from the tips, it’s certainly the shortest par 5 on the course. But, it’s also one of the most challenging. Hitting the fairway from the elevated tee is step one to scoring well. But that can be easier said than done as bunkers short and long as well as a stream all add up to potential danger. The approach to the green is an uphill shot to a green guarded short left and right by bunkers. Long is okay, but beware that you’ll be chipping downhill and back toward the bunkers.

As for one of the best risk/reward holes, look no further than the par 5 12th. At 560 yards (from the tips) this hole is long, but it’s all downhill and the tee shot allows players to grip-it-and-rip-it. It’s the second shot where the nerves will be tested. Go for it in two or lay up? That’s the big question. The answer isn’t so easy. With water guarding the right side of the green, there is bailout area to the left, but that will leave a downhill chip toward the pond. It’s also a very deep, rolling green and if you’re not on the proper level, it’s quite a challenge to just two-putt. Birdie (or eagle) is possible, but errant shots can also lead to those dreaded big numbers.

Those are just two of the holes that showcase Wolf Creek Golf Club as one of those golf courses that has to be seen—and played—to be believed. Want more proof? Well, consider the fact that this dynamic layout has been listed as a top 100 golf course in just about every major golf publication. And not just once…but ever since opening back in 2000.

So, you’ve heard the stories about this amazing course and you’ve seen the impressive photos. Isn’t it about time you checked out the course for yourself?

“I’ve always believed the course’s spectacular views, unique and vertically challenging layout and the exceptional customer service are what make Wolf Creek one of the world’s ultimate golf experiences,” Villanos says. “Come find out for yourself.”
